“Kappa Phi Beta…Rarely Equaled…Never Excelled!!!”
As one of the first sororities founded at St. John's University in 1957, Kappa Phi Beta has always maintained a strong bond of sisterhood and is proudly upheld the traditions of the sorority. Kappa is structured around the aims of charity, tradition, and fostering our social development. Through 50 years of pulling together, we have grown into a unique sorority in which happy and hard times are shared and endless memories are made.
Being a social sorority, Kappa has never failed to live up to this aspect. Throughout the year, we throw various theme parties with other Greek organizations, including BBQ's, St. Patrick's Day, Thanksgiving Dinner, and Christmas parties. We celebrate an annual induction Spring formal for each new member class. Aside from our time together in school, and on the weekends, we also go away on retreats, trips, and vacations. Within the past year, our sisters have been to Acapulco, Cancun, Puerto Rico, Florida, and Montreal. Over the summer, we head out to the Hamptons and the Jersey Shore, as well as water and theme parks.
Kappa recently received an award in recognition of the service and excessive volunteer work the sisters have done throughout the year. This has been the result of Kappa's involvement on and off the St. John's University, Queens Campus. Momma's House, Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, American Heart Association Walk, St. John the Baptist Soup Kitchen and Sponsor-a-Family, Ronald McDonald House, raising money for the Michael J. Fox Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, sandwich drives, raising money for a child in the Philippines, collecting clothing for the poor, and blood drives are all among the various charitable works Kappa has taken part in. Kappa takes great pride in our many fundraisers including last year’s First Annual Kappa Karnival, where the sisters raffled off Yankee tickets to raise money to donate to Lou Gehrig's Disease. In past years, together with other organizations, Kappa was devoted to bringing Rebecca Lobo of the NY Liberty to STJ to speak in honor of women's achievements for Women's History Month.
Our sisters have been involved in Dean Scholars; Student Government, Inc.; the Panhellenic Council; C.A.U.S.E., Academic Clubs such as Psi Chi Club, Accounting Society, and APHA; and Honor Societies such as Gamma Sigma Alpha and Order of Omega. Kappa brings together a diverse group of girls that signifies more than just letters on a tee shirt. A strong sorority is something which is experienced daily by learning about each other and ourselves. Together, we have learned to become selfless and always look out for each other at all costs, as blood sisters would. The principles by which we stem from make us a truly unique sorority. We invite you to come and meet the Sisters that make us what we are…
