Pi Lambda Phi is the first fraternity to be founded in response to discrimination and sectarianism. The purpose of our fraternity is to create a bond of fellowship among diversified men by uniting under one common cause - brotherhood. To aid in the mental, physical, emotional, and social development of a man so that he can learn more about himself and others. Pi Lambda Phi was founded in 1895 at Yale University. It was here that our purpose was established: To promote brotherhood in an environment, free of discrimination and full of diversity. Pi Lambda Phi has over 75 international chapters located throughout the U.S. and Canada. Just a few of our prominent members are Howard Cosell, Artis Gilmore, Sandy Koufax, Bud Selig, Jimmy Johnson, Rafer Johnson, Troy Aikman and Stanley Kramer. Pi Lam participates in all intramural sports, such as football and basketball, and Greek Week activities. We sponsor various community service projects including March of Dimes and various community services. We participate in yearly national conventions with other Pi Lam chapter and hold Christmas semi-formals and summer picnics. Here, at St. John's, our brotherhood is a lasting bond, which we will share for the rest of our lives. This is something that every man should have the opportunity to have.
