Sigma Gamma Rho, Inc., as a leading national service organization, has met the challenges of the day and continues to grow through Sisterhood, Scholarship, and Service. Founded by seven young teachers at Butler University in 1922, Sigma Gamma Rho has become an international service organization comprised of women from every profession. Sigma Gamma Rho offers its members opportunities to develop their unique leadership abilities and talents through leadership training and involvement in sorority activities. Sorority activities provide an atmosphere where friendship and professional contacts are developed which often lead to bonds that last a lifetime.

Sigma Gamma Rho was founded on the precept of education and continues to promote high scholastic attainment. The commitment of Sigma Gamma Rho to service is expressed in its slogan, "Greater Service, Greater Progress." The sorority has a proud history of offering service wherever chapters exist including national undergraduate tutoring programs, a partnership with the March of Dimes to help unwed mothers, and a New York-based Vocational Guidance and Workshop Center. Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.'s aim is to enhance the quality of life within the community, public service, leadership development, and education of youth. These are the hallmarks of the organizations' programs and activities. Currently, Sigma Gamma Rho has over 90,000 members distributed throughout over 500 chapters in the United States, Virgin Islands, Bahamas, Germany, and Korea.
