Theta Phi Alpha Fraternity was founded nationally in 1912 and was established in 1960 at St. John's University, making us the oldest national Panhellenic organization on campus. The purpose of the Alpha Epsilon chapter is to provide close comradeship; to advance educational, social, philanthropic interest, and leadership training among sisters; and to encourage life long bonds of friendship.
We pride ourselves on our campus achievements and have been recognized as an organization with excellence in academics and as outstanding leaders in other organizations at St. John's. Our sisters have participated and held leadership positions in a variety of campus organizations such as Student Government, Panhellenic Council, Student Ambassadors, the Chappell Players, the dance team, Earth Club, Gaelic Society, TV Club, intramural sports and Jazz Band. We are also proud to have many sisters in honor societies including the President's Society, Gamma Sigma Alpha, Order of Omega, Phi Eta Sigma, Gamma Kappa Alpha Italian Honor Society, the Roger Bacon Honor Society of Science and Kappa Delta Pi International Education Honor Society.
Theta Phi Alpha also prides itself on its involvement with community service projects and has been recognized by St. John's and numerous organizations in the community for our commitment to service. Such projects include New York Cares Day, Big Brothers Big Sisters youth mentoring, March of Dimes, Midnight Runs, the Autism Walk, the Ronald McDonald house, the Bridge to Life Counseling Center, soup kitchens, retirement homes, sending care packages and cards to our troops, special programming at area elementary schools, the Breast Cancer Walk, park clean-ups, and much more.We have also had a large majority of our sisters volunteer throughout the nation and abroad, including New Orleans for Hurricane Katrina clean-up, Philadelphia to help at soup kitchens and after-school programs, and Paris to teach children english! This past year we completed more than 1500 hours of community service, the most out of all the Greek organizations on campus.
Theta Phi Alpha offers many social activities, including mixers with fraternities and other chapters. We love to travel frequently, go on shopping trips, conferences and spring breaks together. We also celebrate holidays together including Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years Eve, Easter, and always share something special for our birthdays. Whether we are just hanging out on our frequent sister-only nights or out for a night of dancing, our times together are memorable ones. Every May, the sisters of the Alpha Epsilon chapter hold our annual White Rose Formal, which gives us a chance to end the school year with style. Our formal is an unforgettable experience because it gives us an opportunity to welcome our new sisters and say good-bye to our graduating seniors.
When you're a sister of Theta Phi Alpha, the love, laughter, and the friendships last a lifetime!!!
